In collaboration with a research team across three UC Campuses, Dr. Kirk created a workshop-based intervention method to mitigate the impacts of Impostorism, colloquially termed Imposter Syndrome. This workshop introduces participants to current impostorism research, addressing its pervasive nature and suggesting and generating implementable personal, interpersonal, and systemic changes which serve to mitigate its impacts in our academic communities. Having been implemented in over 11 departments, across physics, biology, psychology, and nursing departments around the country, and addressing populations of undergraduates, graduate students, post-docs, staff and Faculty. The Upfront with Impostor ‘Syndrome’ Workshop offers an in-depth discussion that results in a list of department-generated actionable suggestions for both independent community members and academic communities to implement in order to mitigate impostorism in academia.
